About Derby Raynet
Derby Raynet is a group of volunteers who give their time, experience and equipment to provide communication support for charity and community events and, if required, to support emergenicies where everyday communications systems, e.g. mobile phones, are unavailable or unreliable.
The group mainly consists of Radio Amateurs, allowing us to provide independent and resilient communication infrastructure in parallel with Push to Talk cellular radios, mobile phones and the Internet. Capabilities that we field include:
- Two-way digital radios that support voice, data and instant messaging
- Computer-aided dispatch and event coordination
- Live GNSS tracking of people and assets
- Live recording and transcription of communications
- Internet and Wi-Fi in remote areas
- Satellite communications
- Pagers (beepers)
We have been doing this for over 40 years and have well over 100 years of experience in the group.
The group is a member of the Radio Society of Great Britain. The RSGB is the national organisation that represents all aspects of Amateur Radio operation in the UK.
We are based at the Radio Communication Museum of Great Britain in Derby, UK.
Derby Raynet has close involvement with the User Services and are familiar with their working practices. As part of our on-going competence and development, we particiapte in annual events and training exercises with other organisations, and we continue to be engaged with these organisations for their communication needs. We are also developing new capabilities, predominantly around digital radio communications, which we believe can support our users.
We have a bespoke Mobile Control Room; it is self-contained and able to operate independently with it’s own power supply and communication equipment. It enables us to quickly setup and provide vital communications at the early stages of an incident, and then in a support role thereafter as required.
We are a group that always looks forward to a good challenge, and we hope to be able to assist you whether in an emergency, or at charity or community events. Derby Raynet have become skilled in providing communication links where others have failed; this is due to us having a wide variety of equipment at our disposal to cater for all eventualities. We are proud that for more than 40 years we have always been able to cope with whatever challenges we have been given and continue to face.
Please do contact us for advice, as we have gained planning experience over this time covering many different types of event and situations.
